"Mr. Plus & The Tomato Bush" was created as my first fully-realized attempt at stop motion animation. As a child I had experimented making stop motion film with my older brother using an old VHS camcorder and He-Man action figures.
I wanted to create "Mr. Plus & The Tomato Bush" to help myself discover and understand where my students (The San José Museum of Art's "Kid's Summer Art Camp" of 2010) might encounter difficulty. This film was made to help me understand the animation process.
This film was also made to hopefully inspire the students to utilize creative characters and story lines as well as dynamic camera angles in their own films.
The entire film of "Mr. Plus & The Tomato Bush" is comprised of close to 2,000 pictures taken over the course of a few days with a simple Vivitar Vivicam 5 megapixel camera that cost about $30 . Those 2,000 pictures were then uploaded to Window's Movie Maker and rendered to "slide show" very quickly giving the illusion of motion.
The brilliant music is courtesy of Kevin MacLeod at incompetech.com.
