  • Highland pony? Not with the Friesian, really??Would that not, if possible, cut the size down to much?? What is the hand size of the Friesian to begin with? Hard to tell. Have never seen one except in photos.

  • @MsShoosh1 Maybe it`s not as common as i thought but i have seen them crossed with highland--There has been friesians that stood at 14.2hh while they can go up past 17hh but the average size is 15.2hh to 16.2hh and though the highland on them would make them mybe smaller they will better weight carriers

  • Is this a purebred line? I am hearing about cross-overs with other breeds, what is the truth!!

  • @MsShoosh1 These are purebred examples of the breed though your right that alot of them are being crossed,,The TB crossed with the friesian is becoming are very popular choice and i have also heard of a few highland pony cross but its just to make them better for other riding sports etc

  • Absolutely my favorite breed but it seems they have been bred down in size. Originally a very tall 17+ hands now you see them 15.3,- 16.3. They were used to carry soldiers with all the metal gear in anciant times and were VERY large, closer to 18 hands and very stocky, more like a draft. I'm sorry to see them smaller =(

  • @canterrob123 I agree,,I love the big chunkier types but there soo thinner like these day`s.

same thing happened to the clydstale

  • i live in friesland where the frisian horses are from. they are sooo beautiful and big. i rode one once and could hardly mount it lol

  • hmm... good... :)

  • cool pictures of the horses

  • Yeah you're right they are being bred smaller, my horse's father was a very heavy huge Friesian stallion but Merlyn's mum was a Thoroughbred mare so he is like a lighter version of his father, [in build, he is naturally as black as coal!] I think [despite the fact that I love Merlyn down to his bones] that the original heavy almost draft like Friesian is so impressive looking they are so noble I love them all. Thanks for post C xx
