  • I put it down on the paths initially to keep the weeds back, along with some over cardboard in more grassy areas of the plot. Now I'm crushing everything beneath it as I go. Stout was on to something. It really does improve the soil beneath. Though adding wood chips, spanish moss, grass clippings, thinnings, etc., I think adds even more nutrition. Basically, whatever carboniferous organic matter I can find, I drop it on top of the weeds. Even paper plates are good.

  • Mixing the crops really avoids monoculture pests. I noticed a lot of straw...are you using a straw barrier to defeat weeds, like Ruth Stout?
