...Under the "Tackling Violent Crime Act" there is to be a "reverse onus on bail for firearms offences" which means that for certain offences involving guns or other regulated weapons, an accused person would be required to demonstrate to a judge that s/he should be released on bail pending trial.
In other words, if you're ACCUSED of a gun crime you can be treated like you're GUILTY and locked-up.
This is the OPPOSITE of being presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Have you heard about the latest law-n-order act of Parliament? Stephen Harper and the Conservative Party of Canada have passed an omnibus bill called the "Tackling Violent Crime Act." It received Royal Assent on 8 Feb. 2008.
This is a dangerous bill because it undercuts one of the most basic rights of Canadians: the presumption of innocence before the courts...
