Here is a quick mash together of videos of my homemade CNC Router machining a dust boot from HDPE to replace the (clearly not working) existing boot.
The new boot is made of two parts to allow vacuum suction to be directed to a hole over the cutting tool, and with a normal Shopvac I'm now able to collect at least 95% of dust (including MDF dust). The body of the boot is held to the other half with magnets to allow easy tool changes, and the clear vinyl skirt is held to the boot with Velco to allow different sizes to be attached to the machine.
End Mill: Upcut 1/4"
Feed Rate: 3000 mm/sec
Depth of Cut 2mm
@BestCatEvaDontHateMe Yes, the new boot works very well. I am able to collect at least 95% of all dust and swarf created by machine now, which is a huge improvement.
I will make a video in the next couple of days to show it in action.
