Is this one of those underground ballrooms with wide long hallways a few stair cases, chandeliers, dark red carpet/dark red painted walls/dark wood trim, serving hors d'oeuvres and also a cocktail bar serving wealthy people and then some elegant music playing? I had dreams like this a few times.

Atleast in 1900, the American Economy was sound. There was no recession or depression. Sure, the Galveston Hurricane affected the economy to an extent, but things got back on track quick.

Actually 1900 WAS paradise on earth...except for the things you mentioned, plus the Boxer Rebellion, the Scofield Mine Disaster, the Galvaston Hurricane, anarchists killing the leaders of several countries (including the US a year later), a war in the Phillipines, infant death, need I go on?
