  • I think it is the apparent necessity for a *system* of belief that is my biggest problem with belief.

Also having big problems with the phrase *authentic life*.Probably the ubiquity of it rather than the veracity of it.Or not. A great deal of carefully constructed fiction is labeled authentic merely because the belief holder wants to believe it.Is that authenticity or delusion?

  • @angryislander56 To me it's living your life the way you genuinely want to live it. That can lead to some great experiences and also significant self-discovery.

  • :) I'm just saying that my brother...same thing...born a Mormon...mission...temple...everything. Wanted more "freedom"...wanted everything he did to be accepted and without guilt..left the church and did them. Happier? Not really. I hope that doesn't happen to you.

  • @Todd44444 Thanks for the foreboding comment. I'm responsible for my own happiness. I own my actions. If I'm unhappy I have myself to blame, not religion or god.

  • Sorry, I can't buy it. I think you are forgetting that the string holds the kite up not holds it down.

  • @Todd44444 Of course! Kites! It all makes so much sense to me now!

  • @Lucid777 Thanks friend. I was raised religious, so it's something I picked up from my parents, grandparents, etc. Growing up I went through a lot of "mental gymnastics: trying to justify the more bizarre aspects of religion, and a lot of times I found myself having to apologize for other "unenlightened" type Mormons. Finally I just gave it all up. Life became a lot less exhausting after that.

  • i liked this until i saw twilight on your bookshelf...

  • Mcgaffigan,

Thanks for your candour and transparency. I don't like the exmo vedios that are like "I'm so happy!" I think they represent an old map of the Mormon belief system. You on the other hand have an authenticity about you that's real and truth seekers need that.are

  • Mr. McGaffigan I have known about your Mormon past for about five years. The interwebs give access to information when one pokes around. What I did not know was the the Mormon thing was no longer a part of your pressent. For me this coming out is a bit of a let down because I was under the illussion that you were demonstrating that a Mormon could be the greatest vlogger on the interwebs.

  • @aaburga Did you actually watch this video or do simply cut and paste this coment on every "iamanexmormon" videos you stumble accros on the interwebs? None of what you have written seems to be in response to anything Mr. McGaffigan has spoken about in this video.
