Shinjo Ito (1906-1989), founder of the Shinnyo-en stream of Buddhism, was one of Japan's most versatile Buddhist sculptors and an accomplished artist in fields as diverse as calligraphy and photography. Throughout his life he created countless artworks as a way of giving form to his deeply held faith-in 1957 producing probably his greatest milestone, the Great Parinirvana Image: a 16-foot (480 cm) long statue of Buddha Shakyamuni about to enter nirvana

  • すばらしい仏像に音楽構成です。人間の尊厳を全てで静かに、また厳しく追及している動画だと思いました。すばらしいです。

  • toddutoob / The shoju (embracement) of the Shinnyo-en parents and followers is forever extended to all - even those who choose to speak unkindly of us. We invite you to attend one of our services. I'm sure you will meet only joyous followers and find only unconditional acceptance..

  • 感動しました。涙が溢れて心から暖かい気持ちにも成りました。

  • If you haven't experienced going to services like the followers do, then you don't understand what and why the followers appreciate this teaching. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but out of respect, please have some courtesy to those who actually belong to this order and to those who want to know more.

By all means, if you want to know more, you should ask someone who is actually in Shinnyo-en. Any member would gladly answer any questions you may have.

  • @toddutoob / sorry you feel that way. How much money have you contributed? may be you should reflect in what benefits you will received if you at least know what the teaching is all about.

  • great vid! great music!!

  • 音楽も最高ですね。

  • Shinnyoen was established in Tokyo by Itô Shinjô (1906-89) and his wife Itô Tomoji (1912-67). Shinjô began religious activities in 1936, and the movement gradually gained strength following World War II. Its membership increased rapidly in the 1970s, and became particularly well known due to the large number of artists and television personalities who have become members.

  • lovely...
