Days after BP was awarded tenure for their Mist Mountain coalbed methane (CBM) project near Fernie in B.C.'s Rocky Mountains about 150 concerned residents took to the streets to show there disappointment in the BC government's recent decision to grant BP a 300 sqKM tenure for their Mist Mountain CBM project.

The concerned residents are asking the B.C. government to put a moratorium on CBM development so that an independent bi-national cumulative effects analysis can be completed to assess the impacts current and future development will have on the Elk and Flathead River Valleys.

The Elk River Valley has 5 large open pit coalmines in operation and another CBM project is in evaluation phase at the north end of the Elk Valley, a further 5 new industrial development projects are proposed in addition to BP's Mist Mountain project

  • I am a Neo Conservative and love DRILLING. DRILLING. DRILLING.

    - Or perhaps I have a brain and think BC should not let BP do anything.
