This is an amazing piece of film! The fly is either trying to feed on the dead snail or is trying to lay its eggs on it. The ants are also attracted to the dead snail - as a source of food. The fly seems to have "assessed" that the ants, although annoying, are not a threat and can therefore be tolerated to a certain extent. It seems to "know" that if it sits on the shell then they are less likely to approach. It appears to be waiting, conserving energy, remembering.

The Fly probaly has its eggs in the dead body and it might think the ants want the flies eggs to eat.
