Let's study the ocean as well, try to live down there too!
Maybe we'll do even a stronger effort to keep it alive and clean down there!
Sometimes I think we live amid aliens: the plant and animal world is still largely unknown. We just start to learn to communicate with beings who have been here for 200 million years! Wow! Life is so interesting. Thanks NASA for your challenges to us all!

yeah we can't figure that one out either. It's hard to change one's beliefs. One has to change their mind on their own. and yes education would be key.

Hi there from Europe!
A cool video, a great president! Great teachers..NASA..space-science.
.But I can't understand why in such developed coutry like the USA the evagelical and findamental christs are such a strong force.. The earth only 6000 years old? PLEASE.. Education is so important, especially science-education!
Greetings from Scientist

Actually from personal experiences I have learned that the computer can be used as a major stimulus for working. We limit the programs on it to purely educational stuff including physics & chemistry simulations, geometry suspicions modelling, system modelling and ofc Microsoft Office. I find Excel extremely helpful in lots of cases. For the all-year science project it's helped me simulate a 16-coil power generator as a bunch of sinus functions.
My personal experience as a student :)

Yeah, I see your point.

I believe it was Dr. Major who told me the problem is in simple calculations and that is a K-9 issue. It easer to do a better job of teaching they to change the opinion of a ten year old about math. We need to do the best job of it we can looking at what we know from research. This is just too important to go by your gut.

Oh, yeah but that's not from mitosis, that's what labrat3004 is talking about. I still think that it is our culture that makes kids more dumb, not technology. If you care school, you're going to be doing plenty of math by yourself, trust me.
-
You are correct in your statement that brain cells do not undergo mitosis, instead they utilize reserves of neural stem cells in the process of neuro-genesis. These neurons replace dead neurons in the brain at a rate significantly below say skin cells, but still serve an important regenerative process. It's a relatively new discovery but has significant support.

In the Book "Science Friction" by Micheal Shermer, Shermer sights a study where elderly humans were observed to produce 500-1000 New neurons per day. This also came up in psychology last summer in one of my classes at CSU Fullerton and the Dr, said you grow new neurons. Like I said your science is out of date.
-
If you mean grow as in excite, yes; but neurons do not undergo mitosis. That was checked, btw. They have regenerative abilities under dispute, but you can't just grow more. Why would that be good, anyway? The neurons don't usually die, it would just be overpopulated. With introducing technology, kids get to learn about how it works, like in computer literacy classes. I think the problem is that Americans have become so used to the idea that they can do well without a career in math and science.
nothing to do with NASA really is it
