after having countless bikes stolen in nyc a reverse sting operation was set. the neistat brothers steal their own bicycles in daylight in downtown nyc. begging the attention of the police but never getting it.

to be honest, he didn't look that suspicious. he was so calm and confident, I feel like most people would just say to themselves "probably just a city worker, cutting off an illegally parked bike". seriously, what is someone supposed to do? confront the person? if theyre a city worker you feel an ass, if theyre a thief, you're possibly putting yourself in danger. go to a cop? what will the cops do? "sir is this your bike?" "yeah, i just lost the key so im cutting it loose"

Lets say you do want to intervene, and the person claims the bike belongs to him and he simply misplaced the key. How do you prove that its not his bike if you don't know the true owner?

NYC looks like a shitty place to live, I live in Georgia and things are open and green and lush with vegetation. In NYC it just looks gray, boring, and depressing. You guys must have a bunch of restrictions and stuff. I'm not hating on your city, it's just that I don't see why people make hype about it. We have Atlanta, but that's just a small place I think compared to the state of NY.

Firstly, he doesn't look suspicious; he is clearly confident and his acting is terrible. Secondly, there are some cases where the cameraman is RIGHT THERE and depending on how high-quality the equipment is and how many cameramen there are, it could be seen as some act, which it was. Thirdly, the more ridiculous the method, the less seriously people will take it. Fourth, the "thief" is speaking into a mic the whole time. Not very well-executed.
