The final challenge at the Lego Mindstorms system development project at the Munich Technical University (TU München).
Two teams have been developing Lego robots for 3 weeks to participate in the "capture the flag" game. The game is played on a rectangular field bordered by benches, which is divided in three sections: two opposing home bases and a center field between them. The flag is represented by a ball which emits infrared rays. A team wins by finding the ball and bringing in to it's home base i.e. to a rectangular box situated at their end of the playing field. To accomplish this each team develops two robots: a hunter and a transporter. The transporter can move freely over the field, it has a rectangualar frame attached to it where the ball can be transported to the home base. The hunter's taks is to find the ball, capture it, or steal it from an enemy robot. The hunter's moves are restricted by the center area and the enemy home base. Hence a transfer of the ball from the huter to the transporter has to take place for it to get to one's own home base.
Here only one team managed to fully accomplish the task. Their transporter stays in the home base all the time while the hunter does all the action. After the ball is captured the hunter and the transporter align themselves and the transfer occures. Afterwards the transporter travels to the target box and releases the ball.
On the sides of the field are cheerleaders (including the "frog"), afterwards a robot writes the word "Win" on a sheet of paper utilizing his absolute positioning capability. Theese are not direct parts of the challenge.
