A low cost solid state wind power generator that turns the flexing of an omnidirectional shaft directly into electricity.
A tall flexible stalk is surrounded with many embedded piezoelectric discs that are alternately sandwiched in between rigid backup plates. These piezoelectric structures (toroids) compress and stretch when flexed in any direction, converting any motion directly into electricity with no intermediary mechanical generators, transmissions or propellors. A weighted wind-capturing tip can sustain the energy output from a single gust of wind by the continuing oscillation of this inverted pendulum after the gust fades. In light winds the power extraction would be maximized while remaining robust in high winds.
This device would cost substantially less than wind turbines; it has essentially only one moving part. The manufacturing complexities, the assembly of numerous components, the cumbersome costly installations and maintenance of wind turbines remain their primary limitations; all of which are overcome by the Windulum.
This devices power output increases exponentially as models increase in size. Practical sizes could range between 45 to 250 feet. More ambitious taller models could result in surprising output and efficiency.
Beautiful !
Where I can buy a few tons of piezo like that?

This is the first idea, after having seen a hundred, that makes sense! Congratulation.

I've watched many people's 10 to the 100th videos and this is, honestly, the best one so far. Not only does your video give me a good idea of the project, but it seems like a much clearer and well thought out proposal than the others.

Incredible! I can foresee arrays of these graceful rods waving tall against the sky. How big do they get? Isn't taller more powerful and efficient? I also see Windulums as centerpieces of developing villages and sustainable communities.

Great idea! It's simple and elegant and really seems like it'd work.
