@NeoBoer I wonder if he's essentially saying that modern (atheist) rationality owes a debt to the monotheistic religions from which it came--a debt that's long since been paid. For example, Descartes enlightenment idea of rational man triumphing over the body comes from a religious paradigm in which man has dominion over the world. Now we have a lot of new age religion etc., which places man not above the world but simply as one part of it, an arguably anti-rational and regressive idea.

Wikipedia label's him as a atheist, but I could so far not come to this by listening to his speeches. You were maybe in his class? Can you tell me about this?
If it is true though, wow, wonder what he could come to if he considered God in his philosophy.
i was unfortunately never at a lecture by him ...
well, insofar as that he is himself describing as a Marxist it is probably not so surprising when he stands near to an atheistic position.
But whats more interesting here, is the fact that Zizek is interpreting Christianity as the true religion of atheism (see for example in his book 'The Monstrosity of Christ")
