Little is known about Gustave Tritant, except that he was an organist at Reims Cathedral and at the church of St. Augustin in Paris. He composed thirteen volumes of music for organ or harmonium, entitled "L'Office Pratique de l'Organiste," probably published in the third quarter of the nineteenth century. The eighth volume contains twelve Solemn Offertories, including this "Offertoire du Grand St. Nicolas." Performed by Michael Hendron on his Mustel harmonium, built in Paris in 1887. Recorded on the feast of St. Nicholas (6 December) 2011.

  • I loved this Michael. Its so operetta! In a tantalising way it is quite familiar but I can't figure out from where. You make it sound marvellous and Saint Nicholas must be curling his ancient bony toes with pleasure.

  • Nice job!

  • Nice job on a piece with some unusual movement changes. (BTW, "unusual" = bizarre IMHO).

    :-)

  • Never heard of this obscure composer but you have certainly done him justice. Great video!
