UPDATE 24/05/2011:Thankyou to @hedgehoglet for the Russian Subtitles
UPDATE 11/10/2010: Thanks to Stephen Fry for mentioning this video on his twitter account, rather exciting!

Using the wonderful words of acclaimed writer, actor and allround know it all (I mean that in the best of ways) Stephen Fry I have created this kinetic typography animation. If you like what you hear you can download the rest of the audio file from Mr. Fry's website. stephenfry.com and then go to the audio and video section at the top of the page and look for the file entitled language. You can also find the file on iTunes by searching the name 'Stephen Fry's Podgrams'.
I loved this particular essay on language and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to make my first kinetic typography video. I hope you like it and even if you dont I would like to heard what you think in the comments section. Also I know that at points the audio does not match the text so you do not have to write that. It is because I copied the transcript off of Stephen's website and it was not 100% exactly what he said and i did not notice until I was well underway. However these cases are few and far between.
Just incase you were wondering the programs I used to make this were all by Adobe. Mostly After Effects but also Flash and Illustrator. Flash for the changing background colour transitions and illustrator for putting the words in to the shape of 'language' before loading it into After Effects to animate.
Enjoy

I would love to see the end result as a poster. I would buy that. (Compulsory demand for likes in order to be noticed)

Wow. This comment section is so grammatically correct. I never thought I could look through a Youtube comment section and see proper sentences and paragraphs in such high numbers. I suppose it's only appropriate, considering the topic of the video.

No - what he's talking about are pedants who wince and whine at the "incorrect" use of language by others, as well as the apparent joyless use of words by those same whiners.
There's nothing wrong with using proper grammer - it's bitching about "improper" use that he's smacking down.

Long winded but extremely edifying, I must say. Great way to say I love words. Its awful the way some people want to nit pick about so many unnecessary trivial oddities.

As usual, the wonderful Stephen Fry displays both erudition and common sense. Alas, may the spirit of Oscar Wilde forgive me, but I still cringe when people say or write "exact same" instead of "exactly the same" or, better, just "same". This is not the least of my sins, however, and I must first work on more dire and horrible failings of my character... Such as my tendency to leave narcissistic comments only tangentially related to the author's original posting.

This is just superb and I must state thusly, that any reply that doth attempt to cuss me, or remark in a way that imparts gall; I respond simply in kind with three letters: LOL

Isn't 100% proper grammar the opposite of what he's talking about in this video?

How long ago was that? In his speech he does admit that he was a grammar pedant.
