This just some quick footage I took on my ZR930 to give people and idea about the video quality of this camcorder. The video really doesn't do it justice, but it's better than nothing.

Just note that is was overcast and snowing, and if your wondering what the background noise is it is the water dripping off my roof and some cars going by. Unlike some of the previous ZR camcorders this one does not have a big motor noise problem, or at least as far as I can hear.

I have already used it in some brighter conditions and it works wonderfully. Also, note that the snow mode, gets darker because it is meant to darken the snow in bright light so it isn't blow out, I have tested this and works great. You can see the detail of the snow! It is also great filming indoors.

If your thinking about getting a budget camcorder this is the one to get. Its got a mic input, and takes beautiful video inside, outside, and in both bright and dark conditions.

ALSO NOTE - I just did another small test. If your using two external microphones, with the proper connection this camcorder will record the right and left channels separately. Which is fantastic if you want to use two microphones with an XLR adapter or a stereo splitter. Some camcorders will just merge the two channels which can mess you up in post-production.

  • Does it have manual focus / light exposure?

  • yes

  • how many Mega Pixels?

nice video and quality im thinking about getting this camera thanks for posting!!

    5/5

  • Megaplixels is a measure for cameras not camcorders, but this has a 1/6" CCD.

  • This is a little off topic, but which would you recommend, Canon's newer ZR960 or Sony's DCR-HC62? The HC62 claims it can record 520 lines of resolution, but the ZR960 claims "competitors" don't use all of the image sensor when in widescreen.

Even though I plan to use this mostly for web videos, I would like the video to look it's best on my 50" HDTV and can't decide which would look best, any advice?

  • I am not familiar with the Sony, but have had good experiences with Sony camcorders in the past.

Personally, I am looking forward to the ZR960 because it has threaded lens, a mic input, and will probably have the same or better picture quality than the ZR930/950. Neither one is HD, but the video's I have done in the ZR look fine on my 54" HDTV.

  • The Canon 930 is similar to the Panasonic Pv Gs90

  • es una muy buena cámara. particularmente la uso para tomas de apoyo o como material inmediato en la mochila.

  • Yeah for the PC i recomend Adobe Preimeir elemnets. I use # 4... but their are adobe 7 and 8 now aswell.

Adobe 4 works wonders! Great program... I just havent got any finished films from adobe yet on my computer.

  • Very nice video quality! Do you ever shoot in 16:9 using this cam? How effective do you find it? And , just how do you do it? I have not quite figured it out. Thanks!
