Not exactly playing BAL mode. I was frustrated with teammate and manager AI in the actual BAL mode (there are a host of AI problems that SEABASS and Konami neglected to fix for reasons unbeknownst to me) and so I started a league mode with a created left footed winger Shane playing in a dream team of Torres, Gerrard, Caragher, Reina, Joe Cole, Essien, Messi, Sneijder, Schweinsteigger, Bastos Ramos, Ibrahimovic, Lucio etc.


I controlled only Shane (fixed player cursor just like BAL). I used Ronaldo's stats as the base (believe me it was still difficult as hell at top player) I did this because didn't want to play in any other difficulty except TOP PLAYER and i feel i wasn't ready for the actual mode yet (frustration too) and I also wanted to toy around with the strategy and tactics (which I obviously can't in BAL) to see how I can optimise the teammate AI. Surprisingly, having world class players as teammates lessens the frustration only mildy intially. With the default tactics, they were reluctant to attack and push up and the striker is also isolated and marked by at least 2-3 defenders when i send my crosses over. First 6 matches- all 0-0 draws (no kidding!)


In the end I tried something drastic and it worked beautifully. I set the tactics to ALL OUT ATTACK for 90 minutes whether we are leading, level or trailing and I also set Player Support and Attacking Style to the max 20! It was total football! Players attack in droves all the time and when i crossed, there are like 5 players in the box instead of just 1. Even when the opponents counter attacked, Lucio playing as a sweeper and the athletic Essien absorbed the attacks like a sponge (CBs are seriously overpowered in PES 2011). Last line of defence Reina was also superb. Besides, ALL AI strikers suck at 1-on-1 in PES 2011 for some reason. It is seriously broken. Through balls don't result in goals, only crosses do. So by attacking in numbers, I invite them to attack through the center.


I tried all the feints listed and found that Inside Bounce, Diagonal Inside Bounce and Rainbow flick (a winger's best friend and rather OP) are the most effective tricks for a winger. Best of all, they can be executed while dribbling unlike Roulette, for instance. Ocassionally, I mixed them up with Elastico, forward flick and step over fakes but often out of choice rather than necessity.
