Many black people reacted to an oppression going into a religion that gave them a good image of themselves. But muslims Arabs were the first to oppress black people and the first to make them slaves in Africa. Today in North Africa , dark skinned people are still considered as inferior and dirty. A light skinned arab wouldn't marry a dark skinned or a black African. I've seen it myself.
