@MrCarmel7 Well i think it is because for the most part Ukraine is still a cash economy...unless you get money from a bank or an ATM cash is probably your best bet...one other thing is if you are going to use credit or debit cards make sure you inform you bank before leaving America...i made that mistake and my bank had placed a freeze on my card thinking it was stolen...the translator i used charged around $9/ hour...but i dont know in Donetsk
@Ukraine2011 why cash insead of debit or credit card??? an how much does a translator cost? an why would ie be better to get a flat instead of being at a hotel?? arent te hotels more safer then a flat??? becuase i plan on staying for about 3 weeks there
@jahlyric I did get punched in the mouth by one person there...however i dont think it is a major issue...if you are planning on going to Odessa i would warn you to be cautious...i also know there are quite a few people that know english and can talk to you like that...but some russian or ukrainian would be helpful as not everyone knows english...and i would keep in a safe place also the address and number of the embassy to which country you came from in case...
@MrCarmel7 And i only went to Kiev, Kharkov, and Odessa...i would caution you to be vigilant in Odessa in partiular...i had a person that punched me in the mouth for a tiny little amount of cash i had...also they have ATM's in the country but cash or travelers checks would be a better bet to travel with...also if you take cabs it would be advised to negotiate a fee prior to getting into the cab
@MrCarmel7 One good thing to remember is that if you fly into Boryspil Airport i believe you can take a bus to about anywhere from the Airport...i went from Boryspil to Kharkov by bus...but if you dont want to wait till later on at night i would recommend going into Kiev and taking the train from the train station...Boryspil Airport is the main international airport for the Ukraine...i had enough english speaking people at the airport to be able to ommunicate with me
@Ukraine2011 i am planning a trip to the ukraine an if u could give me any inside advise id very much appreciate it write to me to my tube e mail please so i can ask u questions about certain cities i plan to visit in the ukraine .. thank u
I would also advise people traveling alone in Odessa to be extra cautious especially at night and if the are by themselves...i know first hand how the security at on certain hotel treats people...just be vigilant if by yourself and take precautions being out at night in Odessa
@MrCarmel7 I suggested a flat as opposed to a hotel it seems to have been cheaper
