Clint Boon relives his Madchester years

With the explosion of several new musical genres including the Manchester guitar band scene, the headline-grabbing rave movement and Europop, 1989 was a memorable year for music in the UK.
Oldham-based band Inspiral Carpets were one of the leading lights in Manchester's music scene in the 1980s - Noel Gallagher of Oasis was their roadie for several years.
Former band member Clint Boon gave BBC News an exclusive tour around some of his most memorable 'Madchester' haunts.

Its amazing that the Gallagher brothers were working for the Inspiral Carpets. I think Noel Gallagher auditioned to be the singer of the carpets, but he didn't get the job. Oh well the gallagher brothers are now minted anyway !!!

Thanks for posting. Inspirals were cool.

We used to rehearse at Sankys near Ancotes but had to stop because scallys kept breaking into the cars.

Yeah, Noel was a roadie for them and auditioned to be their singer. I think he learned a lot about the music business from the Inspirals. They certainly are!!
