On October 16, GCAP-Philippines in commemoration of the World Hunger and Poverty Eradication Day (October 17) and to air popular disagreement over the official poverty threshold of 36 Pesos, which is even lower than the World Bank poverty threshold of US$1 per day, will hold a “Stand Up Against Poverty” Fair at the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC).
3pm Human Chain against Poverty around the QMC
4pm mini-concert
1-6pm tiangges, discussions/fora, ukay-ukay, photo-exhibit, etc. “Stand Up to Poverty, Stand Up for Equality” is part of an internationally coordinated campaign that attempts to achieve a world record of people who will literally stand up against poverty within the 24 hour window (from October 15, 6pm until Oct. 16, 6pm).
36 Pesos. A Filipino living on the poverty threshold, according to government data lives with just that every day of her/his life.
36 Pesos is Not Enough. Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP)- Philippines asserts that the quality of life of most Filipinos – not having sustained access to the basic needs such as food, health and quality education – does not afford them a life of dignity.
