I explain why the scholar Hannah Arendt was such a big influence on me, in this, the 5th in my "late night with PressThink" video series.

  • For a pretty good online introduction, put into Google: Hannah Arendt, Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy.

To a novice I'd recommend starting with Crises of the Republic (Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1972) which is more topical pieces but very much "her."

A good collection with a range of views about her is Hannah Arendt: The Recovery of the Public World, edited by Melvyn A. Hill. (St. Martin's Press, 1979)

  • Jay please invest in a decent mic, I'm pumping you through my stereo with the volume way up and I'm still having a hard time understanding ya. This is the primary problem with huge swath of the videos people make and post on YouTube, audio quality is so important, and it is so often overlooked. My personal preferences is for RØDE microphones relatively inexpensive & very high quality

  • What's the best book you've read about or by Arendt? Is there one in particular you'd recommend to an Arendt novice?
