In Southern Appalachia, 1849, we find the Gist family trying to come to terms with the loss of their son. Compounding the already hard times of mountain life, the remaining members of the family have been affected differently by the events of the previous year.
Through these increasingly complex issues, the Gist family attempt to continue on with their lives the best that they can despite the continual interferrence from theiving gravediggers, quirky neighbors, genocidal soldiers and a strange traveler with an even stranger name.
Ultimately, Patrick Gist realizes he must reach beyond phyiscal medicine to keep his family intact, only, then to be presented with a set of choices that no family should have to face.
Created by Blount County native, Jason Woods and William Isom II of Hamblen County, Pioneer Doctor was shot on location in East Tennessee utilizing the historic sights of the region. Locations implemented in the telling of this story include The Museum of Appalachia, at Norris, The John Sevier home site and The Ramsey House Plantation, both of Knox County, as well as public properties in Pigeon Forge, Sevier County and private properties at New Market, in Jefferson County. Arial footage showcasing the landscape of Cocke County is also being used.
MUSIC IN THIS TRAILER IS "SINGLE DROP OF HONEY" BY ABIGAIL WASHBURN FROM HER ALBUM "SONG OF THE TRAVELING DAUGHTER"
