Very serious car accident, rt 10 Northbound Next to Union Ave, Saturday, Sept, 25th, - A serious car accident leaves a nine-year-old girl dead and three others seriously injured.
Emergency crews responded to Route 10 north-bound at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon for a multi-car accident.
State Police tell Eyewitness News a stolen red van, driven by a 14-year-old boy, caused the accident that claimed the nine-year-old's life.
Providence police say the red van hit a driver in Olneyville Saturday afternoon then took off. A Police Officer then attempted to pull the van over, but it fled again.
The van then drove onto Route 10 southbound with Providence Police following a few cars behind. Police say the driver hit another car on Route 10, then drove across the median and hit a Nissan.
The nine-year-old girl inside the Nissan died on impact. The 29-year-old female driver of the car, an infant, and a 13-year-old girl were all seriously injured. They were rushed to Rhode Island Hospital.
The 14-year-old driver of the van was also injured. He was treated at Rhode Island Hospital and released to State Police custody. He is now being held at the training school.
Route 10 was shut down for almost four hours while the accident reconstruction team worked.
State Police say the relationship between the people inside the Nissan is currently unclear.
The red van, driven by the 14-year-old was stolen sometime Saturday from the Nickerson House Community Center on Delaine Street in Providence.
Providence police, the Attorney General's office, and the State Police are all investigating the accident.

  • Wow that is bad...

  • I was a 1st responder and sat in the car for what seemed forever taking care of the little ones. It was very sad for the older sister as she was so worried for everyone. I could only say that her 8 yr. old sister was resting. When I knew she had past. The parents need to know she never suffered. Very sad day and my prayers go out to them.
