This is just abit of fun with Microsoft Movie Maker, Google Images and Dave Graney's great 1994 track remembering the American character actor who did more than just play Sargeant Hulka in Stripes. I hope everyone approves, Enjoy!
Warren Oates
He's got a face like two hundred miles of country road
Don't go in there, you'll get lost
Every cigarette, every drink every doomed affair
Sitting across from you at the "chat'n'chew"
With a bloodstained airways bag at his feet
Flies drunk in the heat
Walking Spencer Street
Sideburns, curly hair, hands in his pockets
Single rooms, fifteen bucks a night
Yeah
Warren Oates, alright, yeah
Walking alone, drinking alone,
Driving slow
Parked outside your home
Sleeping just like everybody else
Yeah he was really out there
Away inside
Among the tall trees
The white water breaking at the endge of his lips
Nobody could reach him
He could get to us anytime
Yeah
A banged up Holden covered in red dust
At the side of the city
A cracked voice sayin' "beer"
Who's gonna believe him?
Who's he gonna believe?
Who's gonna stand up for him?
Yeah
Warren Oates, alright, yeah
Walking alone, drinking alone
Driving slow
Parked outside your home
Sleeping just like everybody else
Walking alone, drinking alone
Driving slow
Parked outside your home
There with no grace of no god you go
Through the united states of Warren Oates
This song is addictive.
