Like many libraries, the true worth of a Public Library to its community often goes unspoken. Winthrop Public library, a small suburban library just outside Boston, Massachusetts, is no different.
With just a tiny fraction of the overall town budget (1.35%), which, with additional state aid only available with town funding, Winthrop Library provides services and resources to every member of the community, at every age. It is a vital resource to Winthrop Public Schools, which has no staffed library. Students use the library for after school study. Residents bring their families to use the Children's Library and for Story Hour. The library provides free Internet access and interlibrary media loan privileges to all Winthrop residents.
This public service announcement illustrates the worth of a library, with commentary from some of its youngest patrons, and their parents.
