Haliwa Saponi tribal member Ree Richardson describes Women's Fancy Dancing, including some of the finer points of designing and or judging regalia. She also talks about 'What powwow means', most especially forming a connection to the Creator.
My heart swells when I see the rich culture of these beautiful people survive. May our American Indian brothers and sisters continue to preserve their rich history.
i admire the culture very much. i love the singing because it's very soulful, and the dancing is not very technical so to speak but it's very natural to me- it connects very much with the rhythm.... it's hard to explain.. it's just so very lovely to see.
i would lo join you guys, I'm apache, yaqui on my mom's side, blackfeet, creek, and navajo on my dad's side. I've this burning passion since a child dance native, didn't even realize it. when i discover my ppl's music, like you said, it's like a church. even with donations. I don't have much, but i want to keep our culture alive.
