Composed by Scott Pfitzinger. Performed 19 April 2010 by Amanda Seyler.

I actually wrote this piece to balance some of the busier, louder, and crazier pieces in this recital. Meditation is just that: a quiet, relaxing, contemplative piece that gives the flutist (fluter?) the opportunity to explore a soundscape through silence as well as expressivity. It is meant to be a very reflective piece, requiring sensitivity and patience from the flutist (flautist?). There are plenty of silences and I see this piece as similar to Native American flute music like that played by R. Carlos Nakai combined with hints of a couple Christian hymns. Try closing your eyes during this piece and picturing the flutist (pflautist?) on a plateau overlooking some canyons as the sun rises.

  • Wow, your sounds is so rich in tone!

What kind of flute are you using?

  • @kimura9496 It's an alto flute. Not sure if it's a special manufacturer or not.

  • very nice!

  • The beginning was pristine, just as I've imagined flutes play. I've improved in G minor a lot on my regular C flute, and this reminds me of what I might compose. It is noticeably more atonal to bring out that tribal nature of flute, which I also love! Alto flute is perfect for flute range because everyone loves the low range of C flute, and not so much the high range. (As in that D through the highest C, or higher if one is capable).
