Thats why they put platen covers or doc feeders on top so the lamp doesnt shine out towards the user. Its no different to conventional lighting. Halogen desktop lamps for example. Most newer copier now use Xenon lamps anyway so its just another waste of money on stupid research projects which are inconclusive.
