United Nations, New York, 18 June 2009 - The United Nations has joined the African Union, the European Union, the League of Arab States and the InterGovernmental Agency on Development in condemning a suicide bombing in Beledweyne, Somalia. The attack killed the country's Security Minister Omar Hashi Aden.
The United Nations has joined forces with regional and international organisations and called on the Somali government to continue working towards peace through the Djibouti Process.
In their joint statement, the organisations said the extremists responsible for this attack are not only a threat to Somalia, but the entire eastern African region, and the world at large.
