Critics react to the hobbits revolutionary 48 frames per second, and its not what you would expect!

At cinemacon, Warner Bros debuted 10 minutes of footage of Peter Jackson'sThe Hobbit in the revolutionary new format of 48 frames per second.

So what did they thing? Well one industry observer said this, "It was like seeing Live From The Met at IMAX. Kinda cold." Another three-time Oscar winner to be unnamed said, "I think we should let him finish it and see what it's like then, but it seems a little like the look of a soap opera".

Still another media member thought it looked "extraordinary" but felt the high-defness of it all would deeply divide moviegoers, especially those who like the grain of film.

ACcording to pete Hammond from deadline...he misses real film... so what I gather is, this is defintily going to be something we are going to have to get used to! viewers might get a chance to see it for themselves in July when a 48fps trailer is rumored to be hitting theaters (maybe with a certain masked superhero?) ...hmmm??? But I am still excited to see how everything turns out! But what about you guys? The 48 frames per second made the movie absolutly stunning. It is very hard to tell what is real and what is computer animated because the 48 fps made everything smooth together. It was so cool how they pulled off what they did for the movie. Even though I saw it in 2D the 48fps made it look like it was 3D and it made you feel like you were actually there in the movie itself. It was one of the Best Movies ever made. The Hobbit truly is a Masterpiece.

I wondered why I had a headache throughout most of the movie... 48 frames per second did it.

Almost all consumer video cameras are 30fps, and the prosumers are at about 60fps, for those who don;t understand, this 48fps is just double of film, which makes leaves the feel of film, but also takes away a lot of the transitional effects you get from computer animation, which has to be eliminated painstakingly later, because the quality is higher. It may not be revolutionary in fps, but the idea seems to create an incredible effect, almost 3D.

I would say this at least is in the direction of eliminating the obvious problems that make computer animation stand out. This experiment again has put Cameron on the cutting edge. I am sure we will see much more of this in the future, it has stunning effects from what I can see just in the previews, and knowing the technology used makes complete sense. Why nobody did this before is beyond me?

like I said, about nearly all movies from the very start of television have been recorded in 24 frames, blu ray and IMAX 48 frames are those of 3D movies, where 2 frames are always shown for the 3D effect. 24 frames for each eye, so yea, movies that start playing in 48 frames simultaneously is quite a difference in the history of movies, and for the eye, now for instance, I played deadspace a while ago, and to my suprise I actually liked it more in 30 frames. maybe lack of detail makes mysterious

I understand that but blu ray movies play in higher frames all the time. IMAX plays in higher frames as well. It may be a difference and definitely most people aren't used to it, but in no way is it revolutionary.
