  • The first stanza had geographic references which became outdated after World War II (and was perceived as encouraging nationalist extremism). The second stanza had references to German women, wine and song - things more suited to a drinking song than a national anthem. The third stanza remained, as it was perceived as having the most politically-correct and appropriate lyrics - promoting unity, justice, freedom and prosperity, rather than having an eastern border in modern-day Lithuania.

  • Pride.

  • "Germany, Germany before all others,

before all others in the world.

    When for protection and defense,

it always takes a brotherly stand together.

From the Meuse to the Memmel,

From the Adige to the Belt!

    Germany, Germany before all others,

before all other in the world."

At one time, the river Meuse was a western border and the Memmel was the eastern border (now called the River Nieman in Lithuania). The Adige was the southern most river and the Belt divided Germany with Denmark.

  • @lichtbroeder Thank you for pointing that out!! If those idiots would actually read history, they would find that Hitler rarely used "Deutschland Uber Alles" as a national anthem-instead he used "Die Fahne Hoch" (otherwise known as "Horst Wessel Lied").
