Kayak fishing Southwest Florida on a warm January day. This winter the water and air temps have been warmer than typical for this time of year and the fishing patterns reflect that. The fish are more active and feeding more aggressively. Fast moving artificial baits are a great tool for finding active fish on large grass flats. They allow you to search an area faster than slower bait presentations which means you'll find concentrations of actively feeding fish sooner and discover the feeding patterns for that day with plenty of time to take advantage of it.

  • Hi Crypticricket ! love your videos. Was in South West FL during the Christmas time. Loved the nice weather there and the beaches.

  • @startoffile Thank you Startoffile!

I'm glad that you enjoyed yourself while you were here at X-Mas. This area really can be a paradise.

  • at 4:35 mark you but that red fish on a stringer and throw him back in-is there anything in that water that'll eat that on you? lol. good video. what kind of kayak is that and do they have 1 to fit 2 ppl?

  • @REFIGUY69 A dolphin will hit it with it's sonar and will sometimes swim closer to figure out the situation and decide that the fish is not a feeding opportunity. That happens all the time. It's rumored that sharks will take a stringer of fish but my experience is that sharks run away from my kayak everytime I come upon one and try to get a look. I spearfish from my kayak and I hang my bloody fish from a stringer off the side of the kayak. I've never had a shark mess with the stringer of fish.

  • @REFIGUY69 My kayak is an Ocean Kayak Sidekick. Several kayak brands do make "tandom" (2 person) kayaks. There are even some 3 person kayaks. With the growth of the sport, there are lots of manufacturers to choose from, You can spend a lot or very little money depending on brand and the technology involved in a design. Big chain sporting goods stores are now selling store brand boats that are competing with big name brands for functionailty.

  • was that a croc/alligator at the 14 second mark . big splash! Could be the fabled South west florida river monster!!!

  • @REFIGUY69 Hi REFIGUY. Nope that was a dolphin. I tried to get better footage of that dolphin but she/he wasn't working with me. It was staying down way longer that typical and moving out of the area.

I've been trying to capture footage of the explosive feeding behavior that dolphins display up on the very shallow grass flats. You don't see it often but it's very explosive and a jaw dropper especially if you see it in person.

  • Great video! thanks for taking the time.

  • @RepublicAmerica Hi Bosco. Yup I'm still making videos. About 1 a week lately I think. It's easier to miss new video uploads now with the new YouTube personal homepage design. it's more difficult to catch the latest subscribed uploads because things fall off the first page so fast that you miss a lot now. It sucks.

  • Great Video!
