@gilessmokey Comparatively yes, but what I'm saying is that it wasn't consistent, brands actually made a difference where as now the rules on manufacture are so tight that it's basically all the same.

@themunster back in the seventies road petrol octane was higher than todays because lead was used.

@PIPZZZ02 Did you notice James at that point smile then suck his cheeks to stop a full on laugh. I bet so many takes were done for this ad.. Eric Morecombe was famous for over rehearing to make sure he was perfect then ad libbing or a facial jesture just off camera to make others 'corpse'. Thats what added to the plesure of watching him knowing everyone is fighting to get through a scetch.

I used to be in charge of commissioning Texaco ads in '76. This was one of a series with these guys. It was fun to make, and I recall Morecambe going around with that spanner asking if anyone wanted their nuts tightened...
I asked each of the participants (all now dead) to sign the spanner after the shoot, and I still have the spanner on display in my study at home.
It would probably fetch a worthwhile sum on ebay but I wouldn't want to part with a memento of a great day.
