Integrated panels like these don't produce anywhere near the voltage traditional Solar panels produce. Maybe they would be good if you just don't like the aesthetics of huge panels. But for the cost per watt, traditional panels just can't be beat. Also, panels mounted above the roof surface help reduce the heat to the roof in the summer.
@lightshot1 are you worried about trees casting shadows or falling on the house? 5 miles?? I must be missing something....
I know if your house's south side is not in shade, this works fine. I am going off-grid when I build my next house. Just wish I could find some good cost estimators w/o having to call a company for a quote. Anyone know of a site?

Why is there a need to wear a hard hat when on the roof? Tp protect against birds droppings?
