Went by this Castle today but it was winter and not open. Thank you so much for this lovely taste of what we missed. We'll be back in the open season.
@sammysaywhat49 Roger de Montegomery was the 1st Earl of Shrewsbury, the 1st Earl of Arundel was William d'Aubigny who married Queen Adeliza after King Henry's I's death.
It's beautiful there!! Just standing where he was makes it look surreal. I am prod t obe English with our history!! Even the gory and disturbing aspects are fascinating, and slightly beautiful :)
The name 'Arundel' goes back to the Doomsday Book. The correct pronunciation is indeed "Aren-dl" not "A-RUN_DL".. Yes there are other towns and suburbs and street names in the world with the same name but pronounced differently by the locals.. Arundel originates from the town and castle in Sussex, England and the locals their pronounce it "Aren-dl". Perhaps it one of those interesting English names that aren't pronounced anything like they look. eg: Worchestershire, Liecester, Beauchamp ;)
