Do we know what we stand for?
This is a compelling excerpt from "Nietzsche and the Nazis" produced and narrated by Dr. Stephen Hicks. In this excerpt, he develops those philosophies that stand in starkest contrast to Nazism. All of his contrasts ("Nazi Antidotes") combined, I find them to be LIBERTARIANISM. I spent a good part of my youth growing up in Post-Nazi Germany (decades before the wall collapsed....even spent a few hours by train enroute to West Berlin going thru Commy East Germany). I know what NAZI "smells" and "feels like" at the very "sensory input" level......hmmm, "menacing, robotic, hateful, vengeful, and cold.....very very cold", some of my teachers (and other authority figures) were EX-NAZIs in the closet (in hiding, post WWII). I am concerned that we are heading towards another Nazi State.....oh one of different smell and feel and look (but it's objectives on treatment of individual will be little different).

OUR COUNTRY's LAWS were FOUNDED on INDIVIDUAL FREEDOM...and they are very slowly (almost imperceptibly) being replaced by FASCIST LAWS.
We should never confuse "Capitalism" and "Corporatism"....those are two very different concepts. Nor should we ever consider the "Free Market" equivalent to saying "Lawless Market" (as many Socialists will infer by indirect means).

I know where I stand! Do you?

  • In the DVD, Hicks proves he's a Neo-con idiot who tries to equate Nazism with Darwin because he fails to know the difference between natural selection & selective breeding. The Nazis wanted to farm the human race & "cultivate" it like livestock. Animal husbandry, even when it's applied to people is NOT natural selection. Agriculture is the OPPOSITE. It's unnatural selection & just because a rooster or a dog is bred for fighting doesn't make it wild. Even Michael Vick understands that one.

  • @bondurango --I doubt that he has a misunderstanding of difference between the two. That's quite a multi-degree quantum jump you are making (attempting)

You gotta admit, at face-value "who is more likely to fail to understand"......you or him......I think most people would put their money on "what, an unidentifiable youtuber calling a peer-reviewed PHD an idiot"......Really?

"I doubt that he has a misunderstanding of difference between the two. That's quite a multi-degree quantum jump you are making (attempting)."

Not really. But since you concluded the reply with the following:

"I think most people WOULD put their money on "what, an unidentifiable youtuber calling a peer-reviewed PHD an idiot..."

I'll take that as a compliment despite the truly idiotic, multi-degree quantum jump, of your conclusion not following from your premise.

  • @bondurango ---Sorry, sound pretty desperate for compliments!

  • One scary thing about German social nationalism was the total control of the press by the state. Without free press a democracy cannot survive and, in the months following 9-11, the free press was essentially "de-nutted" (in the U.S., in Canada and in Europe too).

Now with global world oil production about to start going downhill it's pretty clear that fascism is about to make a spectacular comeback. It's going to be gong show and those of us living in North America have front row tickets.

  • @OperationCrossroad That is scary and yes.....front row (or even on stage)!

The 5th point on his chart would indicate a Neo-con-like ideology (he mischaracterizes socialism & capitalism)..it would have sufficed to stop at #4 (totalitarianism vs. liberalism which really already encompasses all social issues including economics).

I did watch whole film & it was pretty good, but this summation part is pretty terrible..it rings of some sleezy propoganda effort pushing for certain ideologies as "anti-Nazi"...it's fallacious reasoning by a so-called philosopher.

  • @bondurango

He' is not a Neo-con. Its funny, people keep acusing him of being what hes not, Andrew Breitbart thought he was a Marxist in one of his Blog posts.

  • @bondurango I don't see that here. He equates things like authoritarianism and instinct to Nazism, which you can plainly see in the neoconservative ideology. Bush's invasion of Iraq and Obama' escalation in Afghanistan were based on instinct as opposed to reason. The patriot act (again, supported by both Obama and Bush) is authoritarian, which is something this man equates with Nazism.

  • democracy CRAVES controlled press & forces it into existence. When 51% demand channel 2 take over channel 1 it's not too long before shear numbers skew the interest in all channels to what the majority demand.

We have no press today. We have pontificaters, opinionizers shaping/reshaping thoughts about facts before facts are even disseminated. Because they're sure u won't understand them straight out of the box, raw.

We need free market capitalism (not cronyism) in a constitutional republic

  • @bondurango Maybe its more accurate to say that the Nazi's failed to see the difference in their programs of selective breeding and natural selection because they did, in part, credit their breeding (and culling) programs to Darwins theories of evolution.

What specifically makes Hicks a neocon? The deliberate breeding vs nature doesn't compute.
