A parent who wishes his/her child to belong to a different culture and to speak a different language than themselves is out of his/her mind! The "inevitable" would break the parent's heart.

You tell me why Deaf parents prefer to have Deaf children over Hearing children? It is because they want their children to be like them. That"s human nature.

Yes, I was born Deaf and am innately Deaf. I can not argue with you on this one, but to say G-d designed me to be this way is a lousy argument.

But because I am Deaf, here I am, working to try to save the Deaf-World, and sensitize the world to injustices like audism. How do we know that that is not what G-d wanted us to do and be? Why should we accept doctors trying to change our very natures just to line their pockets with money?

Being Deaf is a non-life-threatening characteristic like brown hair, blue eyes, height, intelligence, etc. Parents may wish for other characteristics, but the genetic dice say otherwise, correct?

As for Deaf of Hearing without the gene (like me), who is to say that G-d didn't WANT us to be Deaf? Certainly, if I had not been Deaf, I would be another Republican money-grubber like the rest of my family and wouldn't have gone into education and come to know you. (cont.)

You are Deaf of Deaf. Your parents are Deaf, grandparents, etc. You are Deaf because it is in your genes. You were supposed to be born Deaf. You are innately Deaf.

Many Deaf of Hearing are Deaf because they have the Connexin 26 or some other Deaf gene. Even though their parents are Hearing, they are Deaf because it is in their genes, and therefore, they are innately Deaf and SUPPOSED to be Deaf. (cont.)

I agree wholeheartedly BUT the children are of HEARING parents. The majority of them were supposed to be born hearing. They're innately hearing. There's no way to convince them that their deaf children belongs to our culture if their deafness can be cured by stem cell. Come on Donald, be realistic. My heart aches, yes, but I am being real.

It's not too late, Nikki! If we can convince them that our culture, language, and very existence is equally deserving of existence compared to any other culture, language or peoplehood, then our "race" will not die. But if we just roll over and accept it as "inevitable", well, the "inevitable" WILL happen!

Nevermind my previous jab since it was a reaction after learning about stem cell treatment on a deaf woman, which restored almost all of her hearing. I have mixed feelings about this one. Your quote was so beautiful that my heart sank when realizing that we are nearing the end of our "race."
