The Polo BlueMotion features a new 1.2-liter TDI diesel engine that produces 75 PS (55 kW). The engine consumes just 3.3 liters/100km (71.3 mpg), while emitting 87 grams of CO2 per km. Compared to the 75 PS Polo TDI, CO2 emissions are reduced 20% while fuel consumption improves by 0.9 liters/100 km.

  • aspect ratio is incorrect... fix this crap. one star.

  • Seeing cars with 80 mpg range in Europe makes me wonder why " The Big Three " can't getout of the mid 30 and low 40 on their compacts. Another question is why isn't the Blue Motion not here in the US?

  • @cnnlive10 Agreed 100%

  • Are these good cars?

  • @OneOfaKind949, BMW did ... not exactly the average production car though.... also, the weigh of hybrid energy storage might hurt both performance and consumption..

100mpgs ... No ... That would be really hard to achieve with a combustion engine... VW tried to make the 1L/100Km car (way over the 100mpgs), but it's not exactly a car. That kind of consumption if for 4 strokes, electronic injection, small engine motorbikes...

  • What fuel economy Hybrids loose on the motorway, they gain in the towns and cities, the opposite is true of Diesels, so it balances out in the end. I have never driven any diesel that gets good MPG in bad traffic EVER. May be more than petrol, but still not great! I get 50-55 MPG in My A4, that can go down to -40 in bad traffic!

  • The new 2010 Prius gives good economy for its size compared to the polo and with far less dangerous pollutants from the exhaust. If I were to buy a new car in the not too distant future, well I will wait for the General Motors Opel Ampera, way better Fuel economy some tests say over 150 mpg when the generator is powering the battery. 40 miles on a full charge with electric economy and 150 (U.K) MPG when the Generator is running, (it does not drive the wheels) It's a Pure electric driven vehicle.

  • Here In the E.U the emphasis is on C02 emissions and takes little else in to consideration. With C02 taxes on fuel cars etc, more and more people are being forced to drive Diesels in towns and cities, where they are most inefficient and polluting, and no matter what way they put it in the E.U, it's proven that Diesel emissions are linked to cancer. The Polo Bluemotion has a electric heater to boost warm up to the heater when people drive them short distances, which can only reduce efficiency.

  • @LGSolutions Not on the highway.. that is combined. If you drive mostly on the highway you better buy a 1.2 tdi engine like this car...

  • Now if VW just made a Diesel Hybrid, we could get over 100mpgs. Why no one has made a Diesel Hybrid yet, is the question of the century.

  • is this the 1.2 TDi or the 1.6 TDI the onboard computer seems to be only availabe on the confortline option which is not available for the 1.2l 75 version
