@Macsgrafs Hi mate! Yes that's them, in the wild, dart frogs make the poison from their food items, in captivity they eat fruit flies and springtails etc, so don't produce any poison. However they are still bold and out in the daytime unlike most frogs which are shy and nocturnal. There are several species or dart frogs, these two are some of the larger ones at about an inch long. The most toxic of these frogs are Phyllobates terribilis which produces enough poison to kill 20 humans.
@frogbmth bloody hell...so they are classified as a lethal weapon, Mel Gibson eat your heart out ;))) I do love the colours of them, have you got an full size shots of the tank that you have them in? Would love to see the set up. Ross
@Macsgrafs I'll send you a link, cant post pics here dont think.
This is an exo terra 60x60x45, coco on leca substrate, live plants, rain system runs twice a day and fog system every 90 minutes to keep the humidity up. It's planted with one orchid, two bromeliads, goosefoot, live pillow moss, a fern and a few little plants. There are woodlice and springtails living in the substrate so it keeps itself clean :-)
@frogbmth Excellent, just checked out your 2 pics, I can see the little fellow top right ;) I thought it would need to be a massive tank, but I see he has plenty of room in there. Have you tried breeding them at all? Ross
Are these the ones that natives rub thier blow pipe darts on? I take it you cant handle them at all!!! What do u feed thm? Ross
