Just a reminder : Jimmy Webb, (who also strangely enough wrote "MacArthur's Park") has stated he had the Spanish-American War in mind when he wrote this song. Around 1900 was when Galveston was on it's way to becoming the grandest city in texas, until the hurricane (the Storm of 1900) destroyed it. The book Isaac's Storm covers the story in a fascinating way.

Who is the girl in the video?

The vinyl pops at the end are a really poignant touch.

I live just north of Galveston, and over Thanksgiving I drove my daughter and son-in-law from out of state there for something to do. When I mentioned that a lot of people go to Galveston on their honeymoon, my daughter asked why, so I had to think. I don't really know if this is the reason, but I remembered this song that I hadn't heard in ages. We watched this video when we got home, and were happy that Galveston still stands, looking much the same as it did then. And what a beautiful song!

Wow, let's look at this as an early video and not as as an anti-war song, even though Jimmy Webb, the Composer stated CLEARLY in various interviews that it is an anti-war song, but hey what does he know. He just wrote the fucking thing!

Does anyone know what year this video was made. There is a scene of the Flag Ship hotel with a section of pier missing. Trying to figure out what hurricane it was...probably Carla.

What if America is fighting for oil? Oil is worth fighting for. Some things are worth fighting for...Faith, family, Country and the raw materials that feed the US. So if we are fighting for oil then FIGHT TO TO WIN. If were fighting world tyranny then FIGHT TO WIN AND FIGHT HARD. How can you pipo believe that nothing is worth fighting for? Choose battles carefully and with great Prayer...but if you must fight FIGHT HARD AND TO WIN. I WILL NEVER APOLIGIZE 4 USA; unlike the kenyan pres
No matter who, what, where, when, why or how, rather a war, conflict, or police action, we all should appreciate and honor the men and woman who defend and protect our freedom. The men and woman who have served can remember, laying in conditions less tolerable than the warm cozy bed you enjoy tonight, thinking of loved ones at home, and if they will get back home alive. To all who have or are serving, I THANK YOU. To those of you that will serve, you will be the new patriots. God Bless

GALVESTON is 4 our BRAVE VIETNAM VETS & ALL VETS. Its about a soldier leaving GALVESTON & his dark eye girl. Listen to the words. In his mind & dreams he see & hears sea waves crashing. While he watches the cannons flashing, artillery & cleans his gun, a M16, he still dreams of GALVESTON. He see his girl looking out to sea perhaps looking for him on their beach. He's so afraid of dying but he dries the tears she's crying before he goes. He dreams of GALVESTON. THANK & WELCOME HOME ALL OUR VETS!
