The Saluki originated in the Middle East and is believed to be one of the oldest breeds in existence. Bedouins have been breeding Salukis for centuries to hunt game in the desert. Today, Salukis in urban settings retain their independent spirit.

I've had my second saluki for 5 years now. They've both been beaut companions...lots of fun, easy to keep and despite being fairly large dogs, don't eat all that much. But ya gotta walk 'em a lot. And if they ever get off the leash, good luck coaxing them back!!! Both mine have been outdoors dogs and have happily flourished without other doggy companions. Not the most obedient, but I like a dog with a mind of it's own!

Watch the end of this video. Salukis need to be exercised every day, but, like greyhounds, they will be docile the rest of the day if they've had a good romp.
