@asdfgh4181 You are correct. In fact, Ikkaku would have been able to easily kill Ichigo if he used his bankai...BUT due to the fact that every captain would have noticed (Ikkaku would have hated that) and the fact that he wanted a fair fight, Ikkaku decided against it.

@2Danodrag2 I think that's incorrect. According to some Bleach episode (I don't remember if it was filler or not) Ikkaku was able to use bankai long before Ichigo first went to soul society and right before Renji went to Byakuya's squad.

This bankai thin nobody know when ikkaku learned bankai he could've learned it later on
