A Canadian farmer explains how he feeds young pigs on his farrow-to-finish farm.

Transcript:

John -- As you see the feed trough is in front of the sow and that's where she's fed three times a day. And there's a nice little yellow box above there that has some numbers on it, so everyday we go through and make sure she's eating her food. And we readjust it.

If she needs a little bit more we give her some more or a little bit less we give her a little bit less. She also has a water nipple we call it, which is a great big water tap right above her feed which she can drink water from whenever she likes.

There's also a little water nipple for the piglets along the side. By the time they are four or five days old they also like to start drinking some water as well as the mom.

  • What an absolute disgrace. This is how she lives her life. She cant even turn around. Dont try and make this sound like she wants to live her life like this. She would be better off dead. You dont care about the needs of the pig. Pigs are so smart. How dare you shut her in this cage. Shame on you. Everyone reading this please do your research. If you eat them then you are responsible for their suffering. All the suffering is posted online. They cant dispute it. It's just awful.

  • WILD SOWS WILL MURDER THEIR OWN PIGLETS AND EAT THE DEAD PIGLETS WHEN FOOD IS NOT ENOUGH IN THE WINTER.

  • Pigs are remarkably intelligent animals. Excluding humans, they are thought to be the fourth most intelligent mammal after chimpanzees, dolphins, and elephants. They are active, curious, and social, with powerful eyesight and a keen sense of smell.

  • How does she deserve such a fate, to be deprived of any free move under the brightness of SUN?!

  • Please give these girls some straw and room to move. Please.
