One of the best things about music in general is pure freedom of artistic expression.The problem with today's mindset is that it has to be a contest.This whole "Who's the best" mentality is unhealthy as it stiffles creativity.Music is not a sport! Besides,it is not fact,but only a matter of personal opinion.Shouldn't every individual be appreciated on their own merits? That's the beauty of musicology...Must say that John McLaughlin is a master of the art,a true living guitar legend

I saw him recently at Ronnie Scotts. We had front-and-centre tables. At his age, I hope illl still be able to button my shirt, but he can still set the fretboard on fire..

When I look back, I can't help this feeling that John's acoustic solo in that period (such as Shakti) even has more fire, as compared to his recent works, albeit still excellent. Anyway, his playing has been evolving over the years, a Supreme Master, nonetheless. Thanks for posting.
