Learn to Play the Pipes in Just 21 Years - Entry 2

Entry 2: 1 Week

Focusing on long tones, progress with the bellows, some light talk about headphones, and learning strategies.

The book shown in this entry is "The New Approach to Uilleann Piping" by H.J. Clarke, and the DVD is "The Art of Uilleann Piping", Volume 1, put out by Na Piobairi Uilleann. I don't have enough experience yet to really "recommend" anything, but these are both spoken well of in the forums I frequent.

About this video series:
"Learn to Play the Pipes in Just 21 Years" is series documenting my experiences learning to play the Uilleann Pipes. I am not claiming any degree of competence ("yet", hopefully), and it is the opposite of a tutorial series - I make plenty of mistakes that I know about, and quite likely many that I don't. Much is made of the difficulty of learning to play this instrument in online communities, and it is my hope that these videos will serve as at least one non-anecdotal data point to demonstrate the actual difficulty. Years from now, I hope this series will be a demonstration of the merits of perseverance, but even in the worst case, I hope to have provided a cautionary tale. Along the way, I hope to offer some solace and camaraderie to fellow learners, and I would be grateful for any feedback from experienced pipers.

@jeffcullen99 - It's going slowly, but is still going. Since you're posting this on the second entry, I'm not sure whether you've seen the next couple, but search for the "Learn to Play the Pipes in Just 21 Years" playlist if you have'nt...I just posted another. I figured, as time goes by, and I learn more gradually, I'll post less often...probably once a month for a while.

@ceanadach I watched the first couple of chapters a few times, right when I got my pipes, but I haven't actually gone back to it now that I might actually get some use out of it. The only real necessity that I see is that you can see how an actual player holds and moves the instrument, but since you've got YouTube, you already have plenty of examples for free.
