Save Donner Summit! The Foster/Syme development group recently purchased the Royal Gorge cross-country ski resort in Soda Springs, California along with 3,000 acres of adjacent private land, including Ice Lakes Lodge and the historic Rainbow Lodge. They revealed their development plans which include 950 condominiums and single-family homes and a 200 room hotel. Now they've told the county that their plan is to secure water by pumping it out of Serene Lakes into a 10-acre man-made holding pond.

This short video is one group's protest...Burma Shave-style. The actual signs were posted for some time at the Soda Springs exit off of I-80 in California.

  • @diddymuck I never replied cause I'm BUSY and I don't know you personally (and honestly...3 years later, have now seen your response...). Do you live anywhere close to the area that is being discussed? If so, don't think you would have any of your responses or comments regarding the area.

  • Only God

    Can Make a tree

    Only Man

    Can't let it be

    Bring back the days

    Of Burma Shave

  • There is nobody to speak up for the basin...it's uninhabited except for a few private cabins. This is one of California's last frontiers, and is one of the wildest, most gorgeous rivers in the U.S.

Sadly, it is in some humans' natures to want to divert, develop, and pave everything.

There goes an old Indian saying: When all the trees have been toppled, when all the rivers are poisoned, and all the mountains destroyed, what then will your money be worth?

  • Yeah, I'm ignorant...that's why I asked! You didn't answer either, didja?

  • OK that's different. A river basin is vital and damming a river requires unilateral agreement from all areas along the river's basin. If waterflow or varying dimensions of the landscape by reduction of waterflow is the case, all areas connected could bring the case to govt attention.

  • They are going to bulldoze 100-5000 year old trees, destroy the North Fork American River Basin, and they will be damming up the river.

  • You obviously have NEVER been there, or anywhere near there!!! Are you just "Bleepin" City folk?, or just clueless! You clearly have no idea about what this is about...do you enjoy the outdoors or know anything about the outdoors/nature? All I can say is you must be ignorant!

  • boring. what does serene lakes need saving from??? don't look too serene to me...skeleton trees and junk pine. Big deal.
