My 13" MacBook Pro (Mid 2009) is making a loud click, or snapping noise whenever the clamshell is opened, closed, or moved a little.

    macbook pro 13" summer 2009 2.53ghz

  • also here is the break down of the cost according to Apple. This varies based upon what is wrong. The repair cost is $339 to replace the gloss hinge (without warranty). If the damage is internal it is (best case scenario) $377, worst case $525. You can get a PC with that money. It is frustrating!!!!

  • @MrNathanlie normal apple

  • I had that issue and went in. The employee who took my computer was uncaring about my worries. The hinge is the weak point, the Achilles heel of the computer and easily damaged. I have an extended warranty on my computer, but the employee was basically saying it was my fault that the computer hinge was broken and that he thought I had dropped my computer (therefore negating the warranty coverage). I have the ID of the employee and I encourage you to stay away from him: 298502898

  • I totally ignored hinge noises like those until finally it completely snapped from the back cover.. The glass screen protector kind of detached from the screen itself and cracked..not good at all.

  • mine does this too and it pisses me off!!

  • All you need to do is realign the hinge cover underneath the silver MacBook Pro logo. It isn't fixated by screws like on PowerBooks, it's loose so it can go left an right and that's what makes it crack.

  • did you fix this? any updates?

  • @Ambiesama yes to 15 and 17 too

  • @snoooters How did you grease the hinge exactly? Could you post your own video for that? Mine does this and I stripped the laptop apart (separated the screem from the base) and don't see a real way to get at the clutch/black hinge area to actually grease it). Thanks!
